COG Expands Community Development Staff9/15/2017

Community Opportunities Group is pleased to announce that Melissa Rodriguez has joined the firm’s Boston-based staff. Ms. Rodriguez will focus primarily on COG’s community development engagements but also brings a broad base of experience that will be an asset to the firm’s planning clients.

Ms. Rodriguez has over eighteen years experience working in the planning and community development fields, eleven of those years working as a consultant. Her extensive professional background includes managing fundraising and providing grant writing services contracts for state and local governments, affordable housing agencies, nonprofit organizations, Native CDFI’s, and tribal entities. Ms. Rodriguez has managed on a diverse portfolio of projects in Alaska, New Mexico, New Orleans, and Boston. She has secured more than $59 million to support a broad range of projects such as:  cultural preservation efforts; youth development; statewide health infrastructure, public health and behavioral health systems projects; infrastructure; community planning; workforce development; asset building initiatives such as Individual Development Account programs for homeownership; affordable housing projects; clean energy; fire safety; and community facilities such as supportive housing projects, multi-use facilities and domestic violence shelters. Ms. Rodriguez has also led community planning and HUD Continuum of Care processes and designed and managed community-wide needs assessments and program evaluation projects.

Prior to joining COG in 2017,  Ms. Rodriguez was a founding member of Gallegos| Rodriguez Consulting, LLC, an Alaska Native owned management consulting firm founded in 2013 specializing in fundraising, grant writing, economic development, fisheries management, regulatory affairs, and analysis. Previous to branching out on her own, she spent nearly eight years at a planning and community development consulting firm as a Managing Associate serving as member of the firm’s management team. In this role, she provided business management, project management and project and consulting services.
